| Description: | Mrs. Anne V. Cottrell above (center) with Ann Marie Cottrell Privitera and Joseph J. Cottrell established the Cottrell Bus Service in 1941 to transport schoolchildren. That business started with one station wagon and grew to a fleet of more than 200 buses. When Mrs. Cottrell became head of the family-owned Ford dealership in 1937 following the death of her husband, Edward H. Cottrell, Anne was one of a few women ever granted an auto franchise in the United States. Mrs. Cottrell, long active in charitable, religious and social welfare work, died January 14, 1975. Services were held at Fourteen Holy Helpers where she had been a parishioner for more than forty years. Picture was taken circa 1944 at the Cottrell garage located at 1944 Union Road. |
